Rodin Porrata is a highly experienced scientist with advanced data science expertise who applies mathematics, statistics, machine learning techniques, physics and whatever other knowledge necessary in order to discover the hidden information in data, construct machine learning models capable of mimicking that data and generate predictions about important events that can be inferred, and even how the data will evolve in time into the future.
From ideation to prototype development, to the delivery of production ready software, marketing campaigns or A/B testing, Rodin has excelled in product development for several startups from end-to-end.
Rodin is empathetic toward customers and clients and strongly believes that their needs are paramount, building products with their use cases in mind.
Rodin has led team members and counseled business founders in all of the above activities. He himself has founded online businesses.
While conducting remote research in the field on diverse topics ranging from Astrophysics to Biology, Rodin built the hardware and wrote the software for data acquisition and robotic control systems that operate autonomously in the hills and valleys of California, at Kitt Peak in Arizona, at Jade Mountain in Taiwan, in Central America and even at the very South Pole in Antarctica.
Rodin is presently leading a team of data scientists at Little Places Labs, pushing data science to the edge of space to make the world a better place.
Brief summaries of some of Rodin's past projects
As a graduate student, Rodin helped to build the prototype for the IceCube Neutrino Observatory at South Pole. His work on electromagnetic cascades created much excitement in the Neutrino Astrophysics community at that time.
In collaboration with colleagues at UCSF Medical Center, Rodin developed analytical and computational biological models using systems of differential equations to explain the lack of efficacy for CD8+ T-Cells to clear HIV infection
At Elexity, Rodin pioneered novel nonlinear control algorithms that can auto-pilot energy usage in buildings to simultaneously maximize energy savings and occupant comfort.
Rodin spend time in the field in Nicaragua at Estacion Biologico at Laguna de Apoyo. There he helped primary field researchers to visualize and understand years of data that they had collected on the behavior of pairs of mating ciclids within volcanic lakes.
